L’Association Studio Mukaiyama lance un appel à projets dans le cadre de son programme de résidence d’artistes à Okazaki – Japon.

Le·la résident·e est libre de travailler sur le sujet qu’iel souhaite, en utilisant la technique et la méthode de son choix (dessin, écriture, peinture, photos, vidéo, etc.). Cependant, iel est encouragé·e à explorer des problématiques qui peuvent s’ancrer dans le lieu et dans l’histoire de la maison. Cela permet d’envisager des propositions sur des thèmes tels que

La maison et/ou l’espace domestique ;
La famille, ses composant·e·s et leurs relations ;
L’héritage ;
La migration, etc.

L’Association Studio Mukaiyama tient à rendre public de manière virtuelle (sur le web) et/ou matérielle (publication, exposition, etc.) le résultat du travail effectué durant la résidence. Il est attendu que le projet de le·la résident·e soit compatible avec cette intention, la forme restant néanmoins libre.

La résidence s’adresse à une personne majeure en nom propre établie en Suisse et en mesure de prétendre à un visa au Japon*. Elle doit avoir lieu en 2027, la durée et les dates étant à discuter entre la·le résident·e et l’association.

L’offre :

Mise à disposition d’une maison traditionnelle japonaise à Okazaki (150 m² et un grand jardin)
Expérience de vie dans un japon ordinaire et non-touristique
Un espace de travail dans la maison
Un accompagnement par l’association dans le cadre de la préparation, le séjour et la restitution de la recherche
- Un soutien dans d’éventuelles démarches de fundraising supplémentaires
- Des contacts sur place (un membre de l’association accueillera le·la résidente et reste à disposition pour faciliter la recherche – traduction, mise en contact, etc.)
- Des interlocutrices et interlocuteurs avec des expériences professionnelles dans le milieu de la culture, mais aussi scientifique, avec des très bonnes connaissances du Japon (mentorat, regard extérieur)

Une note d’intention relative au projet de résidence (2 page max. avec des images)

Le jury et les critères de sélection

Le jury est constitué du comité de l’Association Studio Mukaiyama et des artistes ayant déjà fait l’expérience de la résidence.

Les critères de sélection :

Parcours individuel permettant de garantir un travail de qualité pendant la résidence : formations, expériences professionnelles et personnelles, ou motivations
Adéquation de la note d’intention avec les ambitions du programme – les propositions qui comportent une réflexion sur une thématique en lien avec le lieu sera pris en compte en priorité
Faisabilité du projet

*Un projet collectif sera considéré si tous les résidant·e·s sont éligibles.

The Association Studio Mukaiyama invites project proposals for its artist residency programme in Okazaki, Japan.

Applicants are free to propose projects in any medium, with no constraints on subject, technique or method (for example: drawing, writing, painting, photography, video, installation, etc.). While the residency does not impose a specific theme, applicants are encouraged to explore questions that may be rooted in, or benefit from, the location in Okazaki and/or the history of the traditional Japanese house where the residency takes place. Projects may, for example, engage with themes such as :

The house as domestic space ;
Family, its members, and their relationships ;
Heritage and culture ;
Migration.

The Association Studio Mukaiyama aims to publish both virtual (e.g. social media) and physical outcomes (a publication with the Association and a public presentation) representing the work carried out during the residency. The project should be compatible with this intention; the precise form of these outcomes will be agreed together with the artist.

The residency is open to adults residing in Switzerland who meet requirements for a standard visa to Japan*. The residency must take place in 2027, and is typically expected to last 2-3 months. The exact duration and dates of the stay will be agreed subsequently together with the artist.

Residents will receive :

Accommodation for the duration in a traditional Japanese house in Okazaki (150 sq. m with a large garden)
Experience of everyday life in Japan, away from the main tourist areas
Space to work in the house
Support from the Association before, during, and after the residency :
- Pre-existing local contacts in Nagoya (a member of the association will welcome the resident and will be available to facilitate contacts and other research—translation, networking, etc.)
- Interlocutors within the association with professional experience in the cultural and scientific fields and excellent knowledge of Japan (mentoring, informed outside perspective for the artist)
- Support for additional fundraising efforts by the artist

Statement of intent for the residency project (maximum 2 pages, images allowed)
Budget (to evaluate feasibility, only the residency benefits listed above will be covered by the Association).

The jury and selection criteria

The jury consists of the committee members of the Association Studio Mukaiyama, as well as artists who have previously participated in the residency programme.

Selection criteria

The resident’s background, to guarantee high-quality work during the residency (training, professional and personal experience, and/or relevant motivations);
How well the proposed project engages with the programme’s objectives, including potential connections to the location;
The feasibility of the project.

*Collective projects will be considered if all applicants are eligible.
